Let the war crimes trial begin...

Bush `Ignored Terrorism for Months,' Clarke Tells `60 Minutes'
[Richard A.] Clarke served the last three presidential administrations as a senior White House adviser. He is chairman of Good Harbor Consulting LLC. His book, ``Against All Enemies,'' goes on sale Monday. He will testify before the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks on Wednesday in Washington.

In the interview, Clarke said Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld advocated military action against Iraq soon after the terror attacks of Sept. 11.

``Rumsfeld was saying that we needed to bomb Iraq, and we all said, `No, no, al-Qaeda is in Afghanistan. We need to bomb Afghanistan,''' Clarke said. ``Rumsfeld said there aren't good targets in Afghanistan, and there are lots of good targets in Iraq.''
...
Clarke is the second former high-ranking administration official to say the Bush team was determined to attack Iraq before terrorists struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
It was a war waiting for an excuse. The blood of 600 American solders and countless Iraqi civilians is on the hands of the neocons.

TrueMajority

I've been a member of TrueMajority for quite awhile and I truly support what they are trying to accomplish.
10 Principles

TrueMajority’s underlying philosophy is contained in the TrueMajority Principles, a positive blueprint for moving forward in the post 9/11 world. These principles reflect the American values of compassion, charity and justice – the same values we must adhere to in order to build a safer, more secure home and world. These principles are also revenue-neutral, meaning the investments proposed are entirely funded by reductions in unnecessary spending on Cold War-era weapons that no longer contribute to our national security.

TrueMajority Principles: (click here for a full description of each principle)

1. Attack poverty and world hunger as if our life depends on it. It does.

2. Champion the rights of every child, woman & man.

3. End our obstructionism to the world's treaties.

4. Reduce our dependence on oil and lead the world to an age of renewable energy.

5. Close the book on the Cold War and ease the nuclear nightmare.

6. Renounce Star Wars and the militarization of space.

7. Make globalization work for, not against, working people.

8. Ensure equal treatment under law for all.

9. Get money out of politics.

10. Close the gap between rich and poor kids at home.
That is a strong platform for any liberal candidate.

I will send one of these cool pens free of charge to the first 5 people who join True Majority. I ask only that you use the pen to spread the message and to piss off a few Republicans. Email me your shipping address when you join.

Bill Maher telling it like it is...

Bill Maher :: The Official Website
And finally, New Rule: You can't be a Washington outsider if you're already president. Now, hearing President Bush these days constantly complain about "the politicians," and John Kerry being part of a "Washington mindset," and saying things like, "I got news for the Washington crowd," it's like hearing Courtney Love bitch about the junkies.

Excuse me, but "Washington insider" is, by definition, a function of one's proximity to the President. That's you, Mister Bush! When you're given check-writing privileges by the Federal Reserve, you just might be a "Washington insider."

Put it this way. You're not "Mister Smith Goes to Washington." You're the "Washington" part. We need a "Mister Smith" to fuck with you!

You're not on a mission you reluctantly accepted, like the old farts in "Space Cowboys." You campaigned for it. So it's a little late to be selling yourself as some fish-out-of-water cowboy visiting the big city on assignment. You're not "McCloud."

For 15 of the last 22 years, you've had a key to the White House. The last thing that happened in Washington without the Bushes getting a piece was Marion Berry's crack habit.
Nobody is buying the cowboy costume, Gov. Flightsuit.

Only 99% of Republicans are scum...

Yahoo! News - McCain Says Kerry Not Weak on Defense
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Thursday he did not believe Democratic candidate John Kerry, a friend and Senate colleague, was weak on defense or would compromise national security if elected president.

"This kind of rhetoric, I think, is not helpful in educating and helping the American people make a choice," McCain said on "The Early Show" on CBS.
...
Asked on NBC's "Today" if he thought Kerry was weak on defense, McCain said: "No, I do not believe that he is, quote, weak on defense. He's responsible for his voting record, as we are all responsible for our records, and he'll have to explain it. But, no, I do not believe that he is necessarily weak on defense. I don't agree with him on some issues, clearly. But I decry this negativism that's going on on both sides. The American people don't need it."
...
When asked on "The Early Show" if Kerry's election would compromise national security, McCain responded: "I don't think that — I think that John Kerry is a good and decent man. I think he has served his country."
John McCain is an honorable and decent man. I don't always agree with his politics but I do agree with the way he conducts business. We'd be a lot better off if he's won the nomination in 2000 instead of Flightsuit.

Justice Scalia Refuses to Recuse in Cheney Case
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia refused on Thursday to remove himself from a case about Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force, even though their recent duck-hunting trip raised questions about his impartiality.

"Since I do not believe my impartiality can reasonably be questioned, I do not think it would be proper for me to recuse," he said in a 21-page memorandum released by the nation's high court.
...
According to the motion, Scalia and his daughter were Cheney's guests on Air Force Two on a Jan. 5 flight to Louisiana. Cheney and Scalia were guests of the president of an energy services company on a duck-hunting vacation.
Scalia might be right. There was never any doubt as to how he would rule on this case. He would have sided for Cheney with or without the hunting trip.
